Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026

Welcome to Locals. By using the app you agree to these terms. Please read them — they're short and written in plain language.

1. What Locals is

Locals is a community-driven guide showing places recommended by people who live in the city. We don't own the places, we don't accept payment for placement, and we don't guarantee that every recommendation will be to your taste.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By signing up, you confirm you meet this requirement.

3. Your account

4. Acceptable use

When using Locals, you agree not to:

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these rules, at our discretion and without notice.

5. Your content

You own the content you post (vouches, comments, places you add). By posting it, you grant Locals a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display and distribute it within the app, and to share it with other users as part of the service.

You represent that you have the right to post the content and that it doesn't violate anyone else's rights.

6. Third-party services

Locals relies on Google Maps, Google Places, and Supabase. Their terms and privacy policies also apply when you use those features. Reservation links (e.g., OpenTable, TheFork) take you to third-party websites that have their own terms.

7. No guarantees

Locals is provided "as is". We don't guarantee:

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Locals is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app (e.g., a bad meal, a closed venue, or content posted by other users). Our total liability is limited to €50 or the amount you paid us in the last 12 months (whichever is greater — and since Locals is free, usually €50).

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law.

9. Termination

You can stop using Locals and delete your account at any time. We can also suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

10. Changes to these terms

If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Locals after that means you accept the new terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Disputes will be handled by the competent court in Amsterdam, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence says otherwise.

12. Contact
